Synopsis
It's been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles. When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.
Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who's still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
Plot
Act I
A submarine approaches through murky water, the pilots are sweating nervously. They stop at a large gate. One of them calls out to someone on the radio to open it. A blinding light slices through the darkness as the gate begins to open. Above ground a storm batters the Jurassic World Lagoon, lightning flashes behind the Innovation Center in the distance.
Back underwater the Submarine cautiously enters the Lagoon. One of the pilots is noticeably uncomfortable, but the other assures him that anything in there would be dead by now. Powerful lights search the dark seabed before coming to rest on their target; the remains of the Indominus Rex. A claw extends from the Submarine, grabbing one of the bare ribs. A second arm with a buzz saw extends slicing the rib free. A salvage balloon deploys carrying the rib to the surface. A flash of lightning reveals a large silhouette moving towards the Submarine. Back above ground, a man works hurriedly at an outdoor console, a helicopter is parked behind him in waiting. He orders the Helicopter to retrieve the Indominus sample and tells the Submarine to get out of the lagoon so he can close the gate. The team below start prepping to leave, unaware of the gargantuan jaws slowly approaching from behind. This glow of the submarine from the surface suddenly goes out.
The Helicopter returns with the sample, but the man on the ground has lost contact with the Submarine. He tells them he can't wait any longer and starts to close the gate. A Dilophosaur runs past in the bushes distracting him. He doesn't notice the trees above begin to shake, but the team in the Helicopter do. They yell, trying to get his attention, but he's still trying to reach the Submarine. Another flash of lightning illuminates a terrifying silhouette in the trees; the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The group in the Helicopter see it, but the man turns back too late and sees only darkness. The rest of his group continue yelling for him to run but their calls are lost in the storm. Looking back and forth being the group and the tree line, the man finally see it, but it's too late. The Rex and the man stare eye to eye for a moment, the man screams in terror and the Rex roars defiantly. The Helicopter launches off the ground away from the Rex, the man runs towards it but it's already too high and the Rex is hot on his heals. The Helicopter drops a rope ladder down to him but he can't quite reach it. He chases after the dangling ladder across the West Boardwalk, he dodges around an overturned Maintenance Vehicle that the Rex launches into the IMAX Theater. He's literally at the lagoon's edge now, the ladder is almost out of reach. He runs up the crumbling barrier and launches himself into the air, only just managing to grab the ladder. The Rex however has managed to grab the last few feet of the ladder and begins shaking it vigorously. Alarms blare all around the Helicopter, it's in danger of stalling. The pilot yells for his men to cut the ladder loose. Of them grabs a knife and moves to do so but the other stops him, encouraging him to give their man on the ladder a chance. The ladder snaps suddenly, below where the man is holding on setting both him and the Helicopter free. The group cheer in victory as the man begins to climb. He fist pumps the air in relief. Suddenly the Mosasaur bursts from the water below him. He never even sees it as its jaws close around him and rip him from the ladder.
For a moment the crew looked stunned at what has just happened, eventually turning back into the Helicopter where the rib from the Indominus is being stowed. A crew member tells the Radio Operator to call their boss and tell him their coming home. As the helicopter flies away, the Mosasaur swims through the still open gate, though no-one sees.
A news report for the BBC states the volcano, Mt. Sibo, on Isla Nublar has been reclassified as active after months of unrest. Masrani Global has denied any responsibility for the endangered animals on the island, passing the responsibility on to the United States Government. A Senatorial Committee has been convened in the Capitol Building to debate the future of the animals on the island. Ian Malcolm who has been called to testify as an expert witness, speaks in favour of allowing the volcano to wipe out the dinosaurs, citing it as a course correction by nature. Delving further, he postulates that man made cataclysmic events are coming, and it won't stop with the De-Extinction of the dinosaurs.
In San Francisco a billboard advertising Jurassic World is wearing thin, peeling away from the wall it's plastered on. Claire Dearing arrives at the Dinosaur Protection Group's Headquarters. Inside, campaigners rush about tirelessly. Franklin Webb listens in to Zia Rodriguez on the phone attempting unsuccessfully to convince a Councilwoman to their cause. Spotting Claire, she passes the call to her.
Act II
Arriving at the island, the group meet Ken Wheatley, a hunter-for-hire in charge of the Expedition. With Mt. Sibo already bellowing black smoke into the cloud, the group depart the airstrip and head out towards the park. Approaching the Jurassic World Lagoon, the team made a brief stop at Main Street where Zia exited the vehicle to investigate impact tremors, despite the protests of Wheatley. These tremors were revealed to be a Brachiosaur which the group watched pass in amazement.
Pressing on, they were able to gain access to the Radio Tower and bring the Park's tracking system back online, locating Blue elsewhere on the island. Owen, Wheatley and Zia set off to capture her whilst Claire and Franklin remain behind to monitor her position.
Act III
In Las Vegas, Pteranodon's fly free on the roof of Paris Las Vegas.
