Darius Bowman is a dinosaur fanatic and was a camper at Camp Cretaceous, Jurassic World's boutique summer camp during the Jurassic World Incident of 2015. He had initially planned to visit the park with his father, Frederick Bowman, who shared his love of dinosaurs but succumbed to a terminal illness before they were able to. Darius won his place at camp by beating the Camp Cretaceous VR Game.

Biography

In 2015, Darius became the first person to beat the Camp Cretaceous VR video game. He was able to beat the game after using the Velociraptor Resonating Chamber that he found in the pile of raptor bones. He figured it out after he fell asleep and woke up suddenly with an idea. He searched through his various dinosaur books to find the information that he was looking for, thus allowing him to identify the Resonating Chamber and use it to call upon the Velociraptors to attack the Tyrannosaurus. Upon winning the game, he was invited to Jurassic World's brand new, state-of-the-art adventure camp known as Camp Cretaceous. Darius was adamant about winning the video game so that he could fulfill his and his father's dream of going to Jurassic World.

While the six campers were being driven to the Campsite, Darius would encounter an escaped Compsognathus that jumped onto him. After arriving at the Campsite, he and the other campers would watch Jurassic World employees round-up and guide a herd of Herbivores composed of Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus, and the yet to be unveiled to the public Sinoceratops to their night-time enclosures. Darius would use the zipline to get a closer view of the dinosaurs, particularly the Brachiosaurus.

Desperate to see more dinosaurs, Darius tried to sneak out of the camp during the night but he was caught by Kenji. Seeing through Darius's attempted deception, they were interrupted by Brooklynn who taunted their display of masculinity. The three of them snuck to the Velociraptor Holding Pen, believing it to be the Compy holding pen. Darius found himself in the pen after an attempt to rescue Kenji from Blue the Velociraptor. He would then face the raptor, along with her sisters, Charlie, Delta, and Echo for a few moments before being rescued by Camp Counselors Dave and Roxie.

Due to his and Kenji's reckless behavior, the two were punished by having to clean dinosaur dung while the other campers went off to one of the remote Genetics Labs. As they shoveled, Kenji convinced Darius to abandon their punishment and follow him through the Underground Tunnel system to look at other dinosaurs.

Development

In an interview with Fandom, Consulting Producer Zack Stentz compared Darius to Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

In the world of Jurassic Park / Jurassic World, that park has been up and running for almost 10 years. And every kid around the world who loves dinosaurs — and there are many — they’re going to have posters on the wall, that’s going to be where they want to go. That was one of the germs that the character in the series was formed around was the idea that Darius is our Charlie in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory thing. He wants to do this thing. He knows that he doesn’t really have a shot, but then he is selected to be one of a very rarefied group that gets to go to this place that he’s dreamed about going to for practically his entire life. So it’s very Spielberg-like and centering on this wish fulfillment, aspirational thing that’s happened. And the wonderful thing, again, without giving it all away, is that because Darius loves dinosaurs so much, you get the sense that he’s really, more than anyone, the one who earned his way to this wonderful visit… that then goes horribly wrong.
