Nick Van Owen was an American video documentarian and activist. He was recruited in 1997 as part of John Hammond's team for an expedition to Isla Sorna to document the island's genetically recreated animals in their natural habitat in order to raise public awareness and prevent further exploitation from InGen.

After sabotaging a rival team from InGen, he became stranded on the island along with the rest of his team. After trekking across the island to former InGen facilities, he was able to radio for help and escape the island alive.
